Summary of "The Jean-Luc Picard Collection - The Best of Jean-Luc Picard": This set isn't geared towards those of us who own the complete TNG series on DVD, it's aimed at the casual Star Trek fan that didn't want to drop a wad of cash on the boxed sets. It's a good way to make a bit more money off something that's made Paramount a ton in the past, and it doesn't upset the hard core fan, unless the hard core fan wants "From Here to Infinity." If that's you, then let me tell you it's not worth buying this set just for that one program. I found it rather boring, and the special effects are dated. You'd be better off finding somewhere that rents this set than purchasing it for yourself.
If you're a casual fan of the series then I'd recommend picking up this set. It's only $23 from Amazon.com, and it'll provide you with 6 hours of entertainment. The hard core fan would be advised to rent the second disc for "From Here to Infinity" - it's not worth purchasing the set for that one program. (read entire review)
Summary of "Season 7 - Trek no more...": Paramount deserves a round of applause for the most aggressive release schedule for a TV show. 7 seasons and 178 episodes in less than a year is amazing. This show is one of the greatest sci-fi shows ever. The actors are top notch, and the writing is superb. There are episodes that refer to events that happen a handful of episodes, or even years previous. It's this level of storytelling that made the show what it is.
Look for these guest stars in the final season: Benito Martinez (The Shield), James Horan (Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles), Ben Vereen (Oz, Roots), Madge Sinclair (Roots), Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man, Jumanji), Terry O'Quinn (Alias, Harsh Realm, Millennium), Penny Johnson (24, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, The Larry Sanders Show), Paul Sorvino (Romeo + Juliet, Law & Order, Goodfellas), Duncan Regehr (V, Zorro), Dan Gauthier (Beverly Hills 90210), Brian Bonsall (Growing Pains), Armin Shimerman (Star Trek: Deep Space 9) and Michelle Forbes (24).
While I'm sad that the series has come to an end, 2003 is the year of Deep Space 9, so we won't be without Trek for long. (read entire review)
Summary of "Season 6 - Romulans!": Look for these guest stars in season six: Jerry Hardin (X-Files - Deep Throat), James Doohan (Scotty, Original Star Trek), Lanei Chapman (Space: Above and Beyond), Olivia d'Abo (Wonder Years), Brian Bonsall (Growing Pains), James Cromwell (Babe), Tim Russ (Star Trek Voyager), Linda Thorson (The Avengers) and Stephen Hawking. Look for our review of Season 7 coming soon... (read entire review)
Summary of "Season 5 - Ensign Robin Lefler": Look for these guest stars in season five: Ashley Judd (Double Jeopardy, Kiss the Girls), Paul Winfield (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan), Frank Collison (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman), Erika Flores (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman), Jana Marie Hupp (Ed), Erick Avari (Stargate), Leonard Nimoy (Star Trek), Stephen Root (Newsradio), Daniel Roebuck (Final Destination, Nash Bridges), Matt Frewer (Max Headroom), Brian Bonsall (Family Ties), Liz Vassey (The Tick), Kelsey Grammer (Fraiser), Robert Duncan McNeill (Star Trek Voyager), Ray Walston (My Favourite Martian), Famke Janssen (X-Men), Scott Jaeck (ER), Daniel Stewart (son of Patrick Stewart) and Jerry Hardin (Melrose Place). It's hard to believe there are only a few seasons left, and we'll see them both in December! (read entire review)
Summary of "Season 4 - Jean Luc Borg": As I predicted in the last review, the chapter problems still exist. I guess we'll have these problems throughout the series now....hopefully they can get DS9 right. Look for these guest stars in season four: Jeremy Kemp (Conan), Chad Allen (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Our House), Christopher Michael (7th Heaven), Suzie Plakson (Mad About You), Chris Demetral (The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne), Andreas Katsulas (Babylon 5), Alan Scarfe (Seven Days), Michael Ensign (Titanic) and Tony Todd (Candyman, Final Destination, The Crow, The Rock). It was also nice to see Denise Crosby return for the final episode. All said and done, it's a nice way to watch the fourth season, even if you have to skip back on a few of the episodes. (read entire review)
Summary of "Season 3 - Great Trek!": One of the best seasons of one of the best Sci-Fi series makes for some pretty darn good TV. I really hope the person responsible for checking the chapter placement either wakes up or is replaced, but the pessimist in me is expecting season four to contain the same problems as the previous ones. Look for these actors guest staring in the third season: Ken Jenkins (The Stand, Scrubs), Amy O'Neill (Honey, I Shrunk the Kids), Mark L. Taylor (Melrose Place), James Greene (Adventures of Brisco County Jr.), Ray Wise (Twin Peaks), Albert Hall (Brimestone, Ali), Andreas Katsulas (Babylon 5), Marc Lawrence (The Shipping News), Stephen Lee (The Sopranos), James Cromwell (Citizen Baines, Babe), Richard Cox (Sliders), Corbin Bernsen (L.A. Law, Major League), Christopher McDonald (Flubber, Family Law), Michael Cavanaugh (C-16: FBI, Collateral Damage), Charley Lang (Dark Skies) and Dwight Schultz (A-Team).
Summary of "Season 2 - Enterprise, meet the Borg": I really enjoyed going through the 16 hours of material in this set. Look for these actors guest staring in the second season episodes: Billy Campbell (The Rocketeer, Once and Again), Teri Hatcher (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), Kieran Mulroney (From the Earth to the Moon), Joe Piscopo (Saturday Night Live, Wise Guys), William Morgan Sheppard (Max Headroom), Barbara Alyn Woods (Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: The TV Show), Brian Thompson (Kindred: The Embraced, X-Files), Mädchen Amick (Twin Peaks), Dana Sparks (J.A.G), Sam Anderson (Perfect Strangers, Angel), John Tesh (Entertainment Tonight), Nikki Cox (Nikki), Daniel Benzali (The Agency, Murder One, A View To A Kill), Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac), Diedrich Bader (The Drew Carey Show), Anne Ramsay (Mad About You) and Glenn Morshower (C.S.I.).
Summary of "Season 1 - Make it so...": I really enjoyed going through the 20 hours of material in this set. I recognized quite a few guest actors on the show, some of which include Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Nash Bridges, Rising Sun, Mortal Kombat), Jerry Hardin (Deep Throat on X-Files), Brenda Strong (Mrs. Mackoul on 7th Heaven) and Walter Gotell (General Anatol Gogol in many of the James Bond movies). And I finally got to see the death of Tasha Yar.
I can only hope that some of the video problems will be taken care of in the future sets. I can tolerate a little grain and some dust, but color shifting and scenes that are too dark are rather annoying. (read entire review)
