Summary of "The Complete 14th Season - The Coon Returns!": South Park is such an entertaining show. I absolutely love the commentary that they provide on events and situations that occur. It's easy to write the show off as rude and crude, but to do so would be to rob the show of some brilliant writing. I liked that so many of these episodes were multi-part, allowing a longer story to be told.
It's too bad the edited version of "201" appeared on the set, but since it hasn't been aired since the original airdate, and it's not available to stream online, I'm also quite happy it's included. (read entire review)
A Little Box of Butters - I Love Butters (10/15/2010)
Summary of "A Little Box of Butters - I Love Butters": Obviously I prefer season sets when it comes to shows, but these character-specific releases are great for the casual fan. It's nice to see that Comedy Central put a lot of time and effort into creating something special, but I really hate that they used a cardboard slipcase to hold the DVDs. It's extremely tight, and should anything get between the disc and the cardboard, it's going to scratch. I'm speaking from experience here, as my disc 1 has a nice, big scratch in it. It wasn't there when I first removed the disc, but after watching the disc I had reason to take it out again, and this time I noticed a big scratch on it. This is why I hate, hate, hate packaging that causes a disc to slide against something, and I'll continue to rant about it every time. Packaging designers have to ensure that their designs will protect the discs themselves, not just look pretty. My discs are now in paper sleeves inside the box, but I wish I had done that immediately when I removed them the first time.
If you're a fan of Butters, then this is a must-own set, just please be careful not to scratch your discs. (read entire review)
The Complete 13th Season - Yeah, the F word! (3/17/2010)
Summary of "The Complete 13th Season - Yeah, the F word!": What a blast this was! First of all, it was nice to see the episodes in HD, but the episodes themselves were outstanding. It was a tossup which would be my favorite episode, but then I saw "The F Word." Outstanding! Noisy bikes drive me crazy, and I nearly cried with laughter while watching the episode. Other highlights were "Eat, Prey, Queef" and "Dead Celebrities," oh, and "Dances With Smurfs" had some moments as well.
I really need to go back and fill in some holes in my South Park years. At least that'll tide me over until season 14 is out next year. (read entire review)
The Complete 5th Season - R.I.P. Kenny (2/16/2005)
Summary of "The Complete 5th Season - R.I.P. Kenny": Season five has to be one of my favorites. They finally killed that little bastard, Kenny, and Butters got his own show! I love Butters; he's so cool, in a really geeky way. Matt and Trey said that Butters will take over Kenny's place in the group, which is fine by me. Kenny was a great character, but he was only good for killing off. Butters has personality, and we can understand what he's saying! The season also featured "Towelie," the towel, in one of the oddest episodes I've seen. I hope he reappears in some future episodes (don't tell me....let me find out myself).
Summary of "The Complete 4th Season - Welcome to South Park": I think the best episode in the fourth season is "A Very Crappy Christmas." In it, the boys create a video christmas card with a small budget, which is exactly what Matt and Trey did. The episode features material from the "The Spirit of Christmas" - the name of the short Matt and Trey created. It's a funny episode that pays tribute to the origins of the series; very slick.
You might feel bad laughing at some of the jokes, but this is some funny stuff. (read entire review)
The Complete 3rd Season - They're back! (12/22/2003)
Summary of "The Complete 3rd Season - They're back!": The quality of the stories in season 3 were much, much better than season 2. I remember watching the second season and wondering if I were supposed to be laughing, but in the third season I was cracking up the entire time, except the last episode which contained a storyline dealing with child molestation. That's not funny at all. (read entire review)
The Complete 2nd Season - No more bacon! (6/15/2003)
Summary of "The Complete 2nd Season - No more bacon!": I'm slightly traumatized by this set. Thanks to Matt and Trey's introductions to the show, I never, ever want to eat bacon again. That has to be some of the nastiest stuff ever put to DVD. Although the pop culture references aren't as common, or as cool, as those found in Family Guy, they're still pretty funny. Since the last season set was releases, no "random episode" releases have been announced. It's so nice when a studio listens to what the consumers want. The documentary "Goin' Down To South Park" was a pleasant surprise because it's not a fluff piece; it actually has content worth watching. (read entire review)
The Complete 1st Season - Don't kick the baby! (12/31/2002)
Summary of "The Complete 1st Season - Don't kick the baby!": While not the release it could have been, I'm happy that Warner Bros has finally released South Park in a season set. I was one of the people that had planned on buying the individual volumes, but didn't when I found out that they were releasing discs that contained random episodes instead of continuing the series in order. I hope we never see another random episode disc for the series. For those of you frustrated with the commentary tracks being left off, you can get them on CD from Comedy Central. Just head over to the Comedy Central Website and you can read all about it. It's free, you just have to pay for shipping and handling. (read entire review)
Insults To Injuries - Wow, a lot has changed (7/27/2002)
Summary of "Insults To Injuries - Wow, a lot has changed": Okay, I dislike discs that contain random episodes from a series. This isn't breaking news for South Park fans, and luckily Comedy Central and Warner Bros. have been listening. Coming this fall (November 12) is the entire first season of South Park in one set. I'll pick this up so I can see the series progress, and when the episodes from this disc show up in the 5th season set I won't be shocked. This is a disc for the fans that can't wait for the season sets and need their South Park on DVD now. For the rest of us, it's a rental. (read entire review)
