Summary of "The Complete 6th Season - Part 2 - Bye Girls!": Many of you might have heard that I was in LA a few months ago at the TV-DVD conference put on by Video Store Magazine. I had a great trip, and I saw a few stars. Why am I talking about a trip I had to LA? Well, I saw some of the stars of Sex and the City. No, it wasn't any of the girls, but I saw two of the guys. A few hours after I landed in LA when a friend and I went into an In-'n-Out Burger place for a bite to eat (the one on Sunset). We were standing in line to order when I stopped a familiar face waiting for food. It was Burger (Ron Livingston) waiting for his burgers! He grabbed his food and left, and he made the second celebrity sighting of my trip (Colby from Survivor was #1). The second Sex star sighting was on the Sony Pictures lot after I finished a tour (it's quite good if you're interested in a tour of a working studio). I was walking along a sidewalk and Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler) passed me walking the other way. He was on his cell phone, but I gave him a slight nod, and he nodded back. I thought it was funny that I ran into two actors from the series on one trip.
Enough about my trip though, I'm really here to talk about the DVD. I was impressed with the way HBO handled the final set. They included some great extras, like the tribute, panel and commentaries, and included some deleted scenes from the past seasons. It made me happy to see that after all these years of bitching about the lack of chapters they finally included some. Hopefully this is the start of a new trend for them, and one that will eventually include a "play all" for the discs.
I thought the final episodes were a fitting end to a wonderful show. I love how everything came together with the women and their lives, and how Carrie ended up with the one that seemed to elude her the entire series. When Big's name came up on her phone I clapped my hands and laughed, because I think every viewed wondered what his real name was, and we had to wait until the end for the reveal. I'm glad that plans for a movie were scrapped because the show ended perfectly. We know the women will continue their lives, but sometimes the outcomes are best left to our imagination. The Complete 6th Season - Part 1 - Almost over... (5/25/2004)
Summary of "The Complete 6th Season - Part 1 - Almost over...": I thought these episodes were really good, and I could feel them tying up some storylines before the series ends. HBO has done another pricing oddity with this set; the same SRP as the previous 2 sets, and this time it has 12 episodes (the other sets were 18 and 8). I'll bet that season 6, part 2 (8 episodes) will also be priced at $49.99. It's also a shame that none of the cast members are available for commentary tracks, but the Museum of TV and Radio seminar was a nice addition to the set.
I happened to mention to some friends that I was watching the sixth season on DVD, and I was surprised by how many guys don't watch this show because they think it's for women. Sure, it may be geared to women, but I think there's a lot to be learned from these episodes! The writing team is mostly single women, so they're imparting some of their single women knowledge onto the viewers, and I think guys would be smart to take a few notes. They won't come out and say, "do this, don't do this" but you can watch one of the guys do something and then gauge the reaction of the characters, then place it in either the "do this" column, or the "don't do this" column. Ah, what do I know...I'm single! (read entire review)
The Complete 5th Season - High-priced? You bet! (12/26/2003)
Summary of "The Complete 5th Season - High-priced? You bet!": Hmm...I'm a bit puzzled by this release. The fifth season of the series was a short one due to the pregnancy of the star of the show, Sarah Jessica Parker. With only 8 episodes, this set is only 2 discs, yet it's priced the same as season 4 that was 3 discs and 18 episodes. I'm not sure how HBO can justify this, since the consumer is getting 10 fewer episodes for the same price. It's not as though they've loaded the fifth season full of bonus material to make up for fewer episodes.
It's a nice set, but not at the price HBO has set. If they dropped the SRP from $49.99 to $34.99 I think it would be reasonable. (read entire review)
Summary of "The Complete 4th Season - Fine ladies": I really enjoy this show. It's nice to know men aren't the only ones having troubles dating. The characters are quirky and get themselves into some of the strangest situations. I find the conversations between Samantha (the slut) and Charlotte (the conservative) to be the funniest because of their contrasting characters. Season 4 is just another collection of excellent episodes. While the extras certainly pale in comparison with other sets, the show is just too good not to own. (read entire review)
