Summary of "Season 5 - Can we have a moment of silence...":
Ahh...the brutal Oz, how I love thee. Another season, another few inmate deaths. I hope they have a tribute featurette for the sixth season. All the inmates who died in Oz with their date of birth, date of death, and time served could scroll by. Or maybe a slide show with their mug shot and the dates? I think it would be cool.

All the things I want to say about this season involve spoilers, and I don't want to wreck it for people who haven't seen it yet. These episodes are recent enough that I remember most of the events, which was harder for some of the earlier seasons. I can't wait to hear what they have planned for the final season of the show; I hope it's something special. (read entire review)

Summary of "Season 4 - Bad people die":
Awww man, some of my favorite inmates died in season 4! I think this show contains some of the best character development I've seen in a series. Every character has rich a back story, and multiple facets to his personality. It can be hard to keep track of every character, and who has done what to whom. I'd love a "guide to the prison system of Oz" which outlines all the characters and the events that went on. I know there's Augustus Hill's diary, but I don't know if that's what I want, or if it's a narrative.

I love how so many actors in this show went on to higher-profile shows like Law & Order and The Wire, but I was surprised to see Edward Herrmann, Beecher's Father, in the show. He's probably best known as Richard Gilmore from The Gilmore Girls. Also look for director Jonathan Demme, Ally Sheedy, Method Man, Kevin Conway and Katie Finneran (Wonderfalls). Season 4 also introduces us to Luke Perry's character, Reverend Jeremiah Cloutier, proving that he's more than the "hot guy" he played on 90210.

Yup, season 4 was a good season. (read entire review)

Summary of "Season 3 - Oz Rocks":
Often overlooked due to its content, Oz is easily one of my favorite shows. The short seasons sicken me because I have so long to wait for new episodes. I was quite bummed when the series wrapped up, but now it can continue on DVD.

They sure trimmed down the extras on this set. While the deleted scenes and the commentary track were good, I was hoping for a bit more. While the episode recaps and previews are nice, I want some extras with substance. According to Tom Fontana's website we should see season 4 released this October. (read entire review)

Season 2 - Now THIS is television! (1/27/2003)

Summary of "Season 2 - Now THIS is television!":
Often overlooked due to its content, Oz is easily one of my favorite shows. The short seasons sicken me because I have so long to wait for new episodes. Unfortunately, the season airing right now will be the last for the series.

HBO always impresses me with their sets because they can take a great show and make it better on DVD. While the extras may look slim on the packaging, the bio section is large (58 screens for 35 people) and they leave out the "Previous Episode" and "Next Episode" summary clips. Fans of the show will jump to buy this, but if you've never seen the series before I would suggest renting the first season to see whether you can stomach the content. It's a great show, but isn't for everyone. (read entire review)
