Summary of "Season 1 - Good show, bad timing": I really liked this show, but I can see how it failed. News about Iraq is all over the TV and papers; soldiers keep dying, things keep blowing up, and there's no end in sight. People watch TV to escape, but it seems very few people want to escape to an ongoing war, so the ratings suffered. It's a shame because this show was great.
Fox did a pretty nice job with this DVD set. The documentary is great, the commentaries are good, and the upgraded audio will give your system a workout. I'd recommend this DVD, but only to those people that aren't sick of the war in Iraq. (read entire review)
Pilot Episode - This show freakin' rocks! (7/13/2005)
Summary of "Pilot Episode - This show freakin' rocks!": My expectations for this show were set very high after talking with some of my friends over at Fox. I was told the decision to release this pilot disc came after Fox executives attended a special screening. I can see why; this show has the making of a hit, and they want to support it as much as they can.
When I saw this set was in the package from Fox I rushed and put it in my DVD player, turned off the phone, and settled in for 44 minutes of action-packed drama. I was impressed with the pilot (in case you hadn't already noticed), even with my high expectations. I was surprised by how emotional the scenes were, especially when the shooting stops. I'm having trouble conveying what they achieved in those few minutes, so it's best to experience it yourself. I liked it so much that I watched it again.
I may have a hard time getting you to shell out money for a single episode on DVD, but I hope my enthusiastic review will encourage you to at least watch the show on July 27 on FX (10 pm). I predict high ratings for the show, and a kickass season 1 DVD set before season 2 airs. If you like Bochco, war movies, or shows that push the envelope, then you have to watch this one. God, I hope a Canadian network picked up the rights to this one! (read entire review)
