Summary of "Volume 2 - The Oban Cycle - Buy this DVD!": I'm going to keep the summary short, and to the point. The 26 episodes of this 1-season series have become my favorite cartoon of all time. Yes, of all time. I will recommend this series to the young, and the old, and my only wish is that the next show that Savin Yeatman-Eiffel creates comes sooner rather than later. Volume 1 - The Alwas Cycle - Amazingly Beautiful Series (4/10/2008)
Summary of "Volume 1 - The Alwas Cycle - Amazingly Beautiful Series": This is such a visually impressive TV series. I was completely blown away by the 2D/3D animation, and it looks so stunning on DVD. The character design is pretty cool; it's interesting that the humans lack noses, yet it seems to work. It was also nice to see a continuing story, and characters that feel some emotion.
The featurette on the creation of the show was very good; I find those can be so hit-and-miss. I loved the detail they got into, and I enjoyed the frankness of the interviews. The Japanese guys that said, "I didn't want them coming here," when referring to the French, then explaining how they've grown close, even though there's a language barrier, that's not stuff you normally find in a "making of" featurette. The other material wasn't as interesting, but it can be overlooked because of one good featurette.
I'm glad that we won't have to wait long for the second volume; it's out on May 20. (read entire review)
