Universal messed up the back of the packaging since it lists a few extras that won't be found anywhere on the set; Outrageous Footage from the "Soapy Sanderson" Episode (9:50), and "Sex, Lies and Ed's Tapes" Extended Footage (11:36). Add that to the footage missing from the deleted scenes and unexposed footage and you've trimmed 1:26:16 worth of bonus material from the set. I'll be honest and say that it was somewhat interested to watch, but I'd take this set with the lower SRP over the higher priced sets with the bonus material. Now if you can find the first two sets at a much cheaper price (around $20 retail each) then you'll have to make a tough choice.
I'm glad Universal decided to release this set, since it gives consumers a choice of which sets to own, and helps to correct the severe pricing error that occurred with the first releases of the show. (read entire review)

Summary of "The Complete 3rd Season - Going back to Alaska": I'd have to say this is the best Northern Exposure release yet, maybe because it's a full season. Not only was it a full season, but it won numerous awards; 16 Emmy nominations and 6 wins! Some of the big awards were for Outstanding Drama Series, Cinematography, Writing and Supporting Actress (Valerie Mahaffey - Eve). It was the most awards the show would receive in a season.
As I was going down the list of guest stars on IMDB, one named jumped out at me: James Marsters. We all know him at "Spike" from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but he was a simple bellhop in "It Happened in Juneau" - his first Hollywood role.
I'm a bit bummed the set didn't come in a green parka, though they tried to make the outside look similar. Hey, at least it's a full season, and for the same price as the previous parka sets. (read entire review)

Summary of "The Complete 2nd Season - Brrr...it's cold in Alaska": This show is so fun and bizarre, and I enjoy watching it. The characters stepping out of the scene and agreeing that the events were silly and should be skipped in one episode had me laughing so hard. It's a serious show, but then it isn't, and then it becomes serious again. Where else could you hear the words, "Shelly, I love you for your body, not your mind!" and have the other character happy to hear those words? It's brilliant!
I'll end this with the same comments I had for season 1; $59.99 is a lot of money to spend on 7 episodes. I think they should have combined seasons 1 and 2 and sold it at the price, especially when everything points to season 3 being $59.99 for 22 episodes (Universal did the same pricing with Quantum Leap). Hunt around and you may be able to find a decent price for the set. (read entire review)
The Complete 1st Season - Cool show, nice set (5/24/2004)
Summary of "The Complete 1st Season - Cool show, nice set": I have mixed feelings with the Northern Exposure: Season 1 set. The quality of the set, and the packaging, is great, but I'm concerned with the price. $59.99 SRP is great for a season that has 22 episodes, but this one has 8. What makes matters worse is season 2 is 7 episodes, and will probably carry the same price. I think Universal should have packaged the first 2 seasons (15 episodes) into one set for the $59.99 price instead of two sets with a handful of episodes on each.
Universal has tried to make up the high price tag with the parka package, and a nice amount of extras. I was impressed with the "Unexposed Footage," and the deleted scenes. Most shows we've seen released don't have that much material lying around. I would have loved a commentary track, or some new interviews with the stars, but it gives us something to hope for with the next sets.
Fans of the show will love this set, but the casual fan may be put off by the price. I'd suggest picking this up from Amazon.ca for $45.50 CAN, approx $35 US. You'll be able to save some money that way, and Canadian's are also region 1 so it'll work in your player without any hassle. (read entire review)
