Summary of "The Complete 3rd Season (Operating Room Packaging) - I'm the Carver!": I know who the Carver is!! I enjoyed season 2; I think it was a nice balance between the Carver episodes, and the relationships between the characters on the show. I think the daughter, Kelsey Batelaan, is completely shafted on the show. Sure, her character didn't do much, but it seems as though they're purposely keeping her out of scenes she could be in, and never explaining where she is. Bruno Campos played the annoying Dr. Quentin Costa quite well; I hate the character.
I'd really like some commentary tracks on this set. Ryan Murphy did some great ones for Popular, but hasn't done anything on Nip/Tuck; bummer! The set was announced with a Gag Reel, but I didn't come across one on the set (though it could be an Easter Egg).
I'll have a bit of a wait for the season 4 DVDs, but I'll rip then open the moment they get here. (read entire review)
Summary of "The Complete 2nd Season - Snip, snip": It's time for one of my personal stories about the show. In January I was in LA for the Television Critics Association event (I was on a panel), and Warner Bros happened to have a party to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Warner Bros Television that night. I went to the party and had a blast, but while I was there I ran into Roma Maffia ("Liz"). My friend loved the shoes she was wearing, and they spent 20 minutes talking about shoes, purses and whatever else (I excused myself to get more wine). Roma was extremely nice, and I really enjoyed meeting her.
I thought this season was a lot of fun, and pretty insane. I don't want to give away any of the plot, but wow...where do they come up with this stuff? Famke Janssen was awesome as Julia's "life coach," and Jessalyn Gilsig is back as "Gina Russo." My favorite episode was Rose & Raven Rosenberg, conjoined twins who want to be separated. The episode was well-written, and came at a perfect time in the season. I should also mention that this season was nominated for 4 Emmy awards; we'll have to see if they pick any up.
I was surprised there wasn't more to this DVD set. A featurette and some deleted scenes; that's pretty light for a Warner Bros release. I was hoping for a nice Ryan Murphy commentary track, or maybe some interviews with the stars. It's a pretty plain set when you consider what they did with season 1.
Don't forget to tune into the season 3 premiere on September 20th! (read entire review)
The Complete 1st Season - 'Tell me what you don't like about youself' (6/07/2004)
Summary of "The Complete 1st Season - 'Tell me what you don't like about youself'": I think these 13 episodes make up one of the best seasons that I've ever seen for a series. There are nice multi-episode arcs that occur, but each episode also contains a story which is usually wrapped up. I thought the final two episodes tied up many of the storylines in season 1, while giving the viewer a hint of what's to come in season 2. I would have loved some commentaries for the episodes, but the featurettes and gag reel were very entertaining. After watching the series I looked at myself in the mirror and thought, "Hmmm...."
Others have recommended this show to me, and now I'm recommending the set to you. If you like dramas with an edge, pick this up. (read entire review)
