Summary of "The Complete 1st Season - Cool show!": There's quite the mix of stories to be found in this set, so there's sure to be something for everyone. I really enjoyed "Diary" (bonus episode from season 2), "The Little Black Bag" and "The Doll," but found "They're Tearing Down Riley's Bar" (which earned the show an Emmy nomination) to be a complete waste of my time (just my opinion - I probably didn't "get" the story). I had a blast seeing some familiar Hollywood faces in these episodes; Ossie Davis, Roddy McDowall, Joan Crawford, Diane Keaton, Burgess Meredith, James Sikking, John Astin, Phyllis Diller, John Colicos, Cesar Romero, Carl Reiner, Bill Bixby, Vincent Price, Sally Field and Dean Stockwell. There were also a few directors that made their debuts on the show; John Astin, Leonard Nimoy, and some guy named Steven Spielberg.
A few people have emailed me asking whether the inclusion of the bonus episodes from seasons 2 and 3 on the set means that Universal has no intention of releasing the other sets. That's not my take on it at all. I think they're including those episodes as a teaser for what's in store when the other sets are released. I can't think of any studio that sets out to release a single set for a show; they want these to sell so they can release the remaining sets.
I had a lot of fun watching this set, and I've already recommended it to a few of my friends. You may also be interested in picking up Rod Serling's Night Gallery: An After-Hours Tour by Scott Skelton and Jim Benson. The book contains a wealth of information on the show, including interviews with almost anyone that worked on the show, both cast and crew. (read entire review)
