Summary of "The Complete Season 20 - Vroom-Vroom!":
I love that this show is so interesting, even for someone that isn't obsessed about cars. I think a lot of it has to do with the excellent hosts, and the stylish way the show is shot. They pick awesome camera angles to accentuate the cars they're showing; the whole production is just beautiful, which makes me sad that they couldn't continue releasing it on Blu-ray. DVD, or BD, I'm still hooked on the show. (read entire review)

Summary of "The Complete Season 16 - Back with old friends":
All right that was much, much better! It's like seeing a great band a few days after seeing a tribute band; these are the originals, and they're so much better than the knockoffs. I thought there was a decent amount of bonus material on this set; it's just not really high quality stuff. It's pretty much just material they decided to remove from the episode, though I did enjoy the "behind-the-scenes" visit to the production office and studio. It's certainly not the usual location for a TV show. I'm also a bit confused with something on the set. If "Episode 1" is the USA Road Trip, and it runs for 1:06:20, then why do they have a shorter USA Road Trip on Disc 3? It's a bit odd, though I guess I'd rather they include something twice than not at all (and I'll admit to only watching a bit of the shorter version of the episode - I didn't see the point of watching more).

The 17th season will wrap airing in the UK fairly soon, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear of a release just before, or just after Christmas (I'm hoping before, because I'm selfish). (read entire review)

Summary of "The Complete Season 14 - Pretty Cars!":
I absolutely loved watching Top Gear on Blu-ray. The show looks good on DVD, but the introduction of HD video takes the show to another level. I realize I'll never drive one of these amazing cars, so looking at them in HD is probably the best I'll ever get.

This season was great to watch, with the highlights being the Bolivia and Polar specials. Knowing that the Polar special was from season 9, before they started shooing in HD, I was pleased to discover that this isn't an upconverted episode; they show the thing in HD. It's also been extremely cold where I live these past few days, so I enjoyed watching people experience a colder part of Canada (misery loves company). I was slightly disappointed that the featurettes were so short on the set, but overall I was happy with the set.

What's next for Top Gear? That's be season 15, released the same day as this set! (read entire review)

The Complete Season 13 - I am The Stig! (9/28/2010)

Summary of "The Complete Season 13 - I am The Stig!":
It's a bit ironic that there's a mock unveiling of "The Stig" in the first episode this season, as the real driver behind "The Stig" has just come out with a book (Ben Collins - "The Man in the White Suit").

As I've said many times in the past, I'm not a car guy (I don't even drive mine every day), but this is such an amazing show that it speaks to my inner-car-guy. I'll never be able to drive a Ferrari (to be honest, I don't know if I'd even fit in one), but it's fun watching someone else drive it around a track for a minute.

This is another solid Top Gear set from the BBC. Fans will enjoy it (as well as non-car guys). (read entire review)

Summary of "The Complete Season 12 - Woohoo, Extras!":
I really enjoyed the Botswana special that's on disc 4. I love when the guys are put in extremely strange and wacky situations, and Botswana was definitely a strange and wacky situation! Driving across somewhat hardened ooze? Of course a lot of entertainment comes from the arguments the hosts get into. I don't think they could ever agree which car is best-suited for a certain scenario, and that's part of the fun of the series.

I enjoy watching the "Stars in a reasonably priced car" segment, but I rarely actually know who the people are, so it was nice to see Mark Wahlberg appear in an episode. Besides being a "gearhead," he's had quite a history with cars, something he mentioned during the segment.

It's nice to see some extras on a Top Gear set, and they aren't fluff pieces either. I still think it would be a good idea to profile the cars from the episodes, just a short 1 or 2 screen piece outlining the specs and price would be easy enough to do, and interesting to read.

Alright BBC, bring on seasons 13 and 14 (please)! (read entire review)

Summary of "The Complete Season 11 - This Car Got Clipped!":
I think one of my favorite segments in Top Gear would have to be "Stars in a Reasonably Priced Car," so I was extremely pleased to see Rupert Penry-Jones and Peter Firth from Spooks/MI-5 (only my favorite spy show ever) appear on the show. They posted decent times, and looked like they had a lot of fun doing it.

I'm not sure what to say about the missing footage from these episodes, other than it sucks, especially since BBC addressed the previous complaints and said there wouldn't be cuts in these episodes.

Luckily we don't have to wait for the next season, as it's coming out on the same day as season 11. Yippee!!

P.S. The new BBC logo at the start of the DVDs is cool. (read entire review)

Summary of "The Complete Season 10 - Zoom, Zoom":
What a brilliant show! I love the banter between the hosts, and how cinematic they've made the show look. The British know how to spice up reality TV shows (has anyone seen the British version of The Apprentice? Twice as good as the US version) with beautiful cutaways and wonderfully framed shots. Once scene that stood out in my mind had Jeremy standing on a revolving platform talking about a car as it drove in circles. The result was a "talking" scene that became more interesting because of the way it was presented. Brilliant!

The challenges the three undergo are interesting, and I enjoy the "star in a reasonably priced car" segments. Hopefully this is the first of many Top Gear DVD releases. While I'm not a car guy, I can say I had a great time watching this DVD. (read entire review)
