Summary of "Season 1, Part 1 - Great Show, Brutal Artwork": Completely hooked after the first episode. The pilot had an intriguing plot, an interesting cast, and a mystery that had me both confused and excited. Yup, completely hooked! It took me a couple of days to get through the 10 episodes, but only because I was trying to space them out. Now I have the unfortunate decision of waiting for the DVDs/BDs (which we know will be coming in August), or watching the show week-to-week, which I hate doing. I may opt for a third choice; DVRing all the episodes, then watching them in a marathon. I haven't decided yet.
The fact that we know a complete season is coming leaves consumers in a weird position; do you skip out on the season/volume release (this one), and wait for the complete season, or do you buy this and face possible duplication? That's tough, but the $15 coupon towards the season set (there's a flyer in this set advertising it), and the $20 price at Amazon.com may make that a bit easier for some people. Afterall, you're just out $5 if you go this route, and then you can lend the volume set to someone you think may get into the show. No idea whether these extras will appear on the season set though, but there's really only one that's worthwhile, since the others are simply previews of what's to come.
I'm annoyed with Disney's sloppy authoring on the chapter stops, but that doesn't lessen my interest in the show. Hopefully they'll take better care with the season set.
I'd like to point something out here, and it's something I hardly ever talk about in my reviews, because it doesn't usually matter to me. This is by far the ugliest artwork I've seen for a current series. Yes, I understand what the globe filled with photos represents, but it looks like shit. The globe looks like a disco ball, and the actors look like contestants on Dancing in the Future. It doesn't convey ANY of the mystery of the series, or even that the show is a sci-fi drama. It looks like a hodge-podge of photos with a cheesy bevel effect, and a disco ball in the background. Absolutely brutal. Please people, if you've never seen the show before, please don't judge the show by the shitastic artwork they used. (read entire review)
