Summary of "Best of Season 1 - It's missing 4 episodes...": I was a bit hesitant to watch this show when the DVD arrived, mostly because I'm not a fan of Ty Pennington. I watched him on Trading Spaces and I thought he was a pompous ass. He followed instructions poorly, he was loud, and he really annoyed me. EM:HE features a different Ty from the one in Trading Spaces. He's still a tad loud, but he's in control now, and it suits him a lot better. I began warming up to him after a few episodes, and by the end I can say I actually liked him.
I'll admit to crying at least once in every episode, but how can you not? Most of the people on this show have very, very sad stories; the kids that lost their mother, and father a few weeks apart; the teenager who was left crippled after a car accident and hasn't been upstairs in 2 years; the family living in a house filled with mould that could kill one of the family members. Thankfully all these stories have happy endings thanks to Ty and his team. The makeovers are incredible, and the houses are beautiful. There wasn't a single house I didn't like, and each one was so different from the other. It's a touching series that the entire family can watch.
Missing episodes aside, this is a really cool DVD set. The bloopers and outtakes are fun to watch, and the featurette on the construction of the show is good. The only flaw I can find in this set is that it's a "best of season 1" instead of being "season 1." My favorite part of this set was when I found a nice couch I want to buy at Sears.
