Summary of "Season 2 - Love this!": This is such a fun show! Sure, it can deal with some heavy material, but I know I'll have a smile on my face by the end of the episode. I was chatting with a friend at Sony a month or so before this was released, and I mentioned that I was really looking forward to it. There was silence on the other end of the line, followed by "Are you talking about the lawyer show?" I think if there's one thing I've learned over the past 10 years of running this site it's that I don't fall into the "normal" demographics for anything. I love shows that I shouldn't enjoy at all, and sometimes I dislike shows that are aimed right at "me" (the demographic "me," that is). I'm sure Josh Berman would love to hear that a man in his early 30s loves his show.
The bonus material on this set are marginally better than the season 1 extras. The interviews with the cast and crew are alright, but the deleted scenes are better this time around. I wish they would have included a gag reel, as I think the cast has a lot of fun on set, and I'd love to see some of it on the DVDs.
Well, I'll have to wait another year to see season 3; I looked and I don't even get this show in Canada! (read entire review)
Summary of "Season 1 - Good show, but diet extras": There are so many shows out there, that sometimes I get the premise and the show title confused. I thought Drop Dead Diva was a reality show featuring overweight women than are trying to "drop" pounds. That's not what it's about, thankfully, as the real version of the show is much better than my fabricated one. It reminds me of Ally McBeal; it's quirky, and it's a show about lawyers. The cast is wonderful, and the best thing is most of them aren't known (the one person with a "name" being Margaret Cho). Speaking of Cho, I'm not a fan of her past TV work (I lasted about 3 minutes into All-American Girl before shutting it off), and I was a bit worried that her character would be over-the-top and hard to handle. That's far from the case, and her work on this show has made me want to check out some of her standup.
The extras on the DVD set were a let-down; I was expecting more substance, and less fluff. Everything, besides "Dropping in with Drop Dead Diva," is so short and void of much entertainment that it left me wanting more. The show is great, but the DVD set is kinda "meh." (read entire review)
