Summary of "The Next Doctor: 2008 Christmas Special - Pretty good, not great":
I really hate these single-disc releases, but only because Doctor Who is so great that I want to watch more than one episode at a time. I thought this episode was fun, like all the Christmas specials in the past, though the DVD could use some beefing up. "Doctor Who at the Proms" is great, but there's absolutely no bonus material relating to the episode. No interviews with David Morrissey, or interviews of any kind, which is a real shame. I'd hate to see BBC release all these specials in one set with tons of bonus material because it'll annoy the fans that have bought these single-episode discs, but at the same time Doctor Who deserves more material than these single discs are providing. Planet of the Dead - Good episode, okay disc (8/07/2009)

Summary of "Planet of the Dead - Good episode, okay disc":
I'm not quite sure how I feel about separate releases for each of the specials. Sure, I'm happy I get to watch them earlier than if they just released a box set, but there's very little on this disc compared to a season set of the show. The Doctor Who Confidential is good, but there aren't any deleted scenes, commentary tracks, or other bonus material, and that's a bit disappointing. This is also released out of order, with the Christmas episode coming in September (the Christmas episode aired first). Luckily there won't be any continuity problems, so you can pick this up now and the Christmas episode later. (read entire review)

The Complete 4th Series - I love this show! (12/10/2008)

Summary of "The Complete 4th Series - I love this show!":
I freakin' love this show! It's such a wonderful mix of sci-fi and comedy, and the result is a show like no other. It can go from a moment of complete seriousness, to a moment that's so hilarious I'm laughing out loud. Without going into details regarding the season, it's the finest so far, and for so many reasons.

The DVD set is good; the extras are fabulous, but BBC needs to make some corrections to the audio, and provide a chapter after the opening of the show (that frustrates me to no end, and occurs on nearly all their sets).

Go out and buy this if you haven't already, it's worth the money. (read entire review)

Summary of "The Complete 2nd Series - It's the New New Doctor":
I'm so glad they fixed the horrible audio problem from season 1, but there are still a few things "wrong" with this set. I'd assume that most people watch bonus material after watching the episodes, especially if they haven't seen the show yet, but the "Children in Need" special should be watched before anything else on the disc. I thought the first episode of the season started off a bit strangely, but I blamed it on my poor memory of the final moments in season 1. I'm also extremely annoyed by the long menu transitions which can't be skipped. I like to put a disc in and have a split second between menus, not a whole animated sequence.

I really enjoyed Tennant as the new doctor; I like the style of humor he brings to the show - it's a bit different from the humor Eccleston had. I was able to introduce my girlfriend to "The Doctor," and I was quite happy when she enjoyed it and watched the entire season with me. Woohoo, a new Who convert! I loved this season, especially the two-part episodes, and I can't wait for the third season (which hasn't started airing yet) to be released on DVD. It would be a treat if we got season 3 on the HD formats next year. (read entire review)

The Complete 1st Series (USA Only) - Did someone call a Doctor? (6/29/2006)

Summary of "The Complete 1st Series (USA Only) - Did someone call a Doctor?":
The set is loaded with bonus material, but it's far from perfect. Frustrating menus, a brutal 5.1 mix, and some trimmed featurettes (and one that shouldn't be on there) drag the set down a bit. BBC releases always feel like they're 90% complete; a little rough around the edges.

I really enjoyed Eccleston as "The Doctor" but I'll keep my mind open to the new guy. I thought the new version of the show was just as fun and exciting as the older shows; they kept the cheese factor intact as well. I'll admit it took me a few episodes to get into the show, but I got sucked in during "The Unquiet Dead," and remained hooked until the final episode of the season. I enjoyed the double-length episodes, especially since I had no indication they would last longer than a regular episode (I like to be surprised).

I hope a little bit more attention is given to the second season of Doctor Who. (read entire review)
