Summary of "The Complete 1st Season - Not a Legal Drama!": Well, I was expecting a legal drama to have numerous courtroom scenes, but aren't any in the first season. That's your first hint that this isn't your typical "legal drama," and the show probably shouldn't be classified that way at all. Yes, it revolves around a legal case (class action lawsuit), but it's full of mystery, not boring courtroom babble. I really enjoyed the style of storytelling - revealing to us the "destination," then bringing us along for the ride. I've seen something similar done in the past, but not to the perfection that the writers on Damages achieved. The actors in Damages are perfect! Glenn Close, who came to TV in FX's The Shield a few years ago, is brilliant as Patty Hewes. She's joined by Tate Donovan, Ted Danson, and Rose Bryne. I have a friend in Australia that used to be friends with Rose, before she moved away from Sydney, and he used to talk about her quite a bit. It's great that she's had success since leaving Sydney, having appeared in Troy, Sunshine, and now Damages. I was also a bit surprised to hear Anastasia Griffith (Katie Conner) with an English accent in the special features, and even more surprised when I learned she's the sister of Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica). I really loved this show, but I'm sorely disappointed in the quality of the video. I don't know what they did when they were shooting this, but there shouldn't be that much noise in the picture. It's likely a year away, but I can't wait to see the second season of Damages! (read entire review)
