Summary of "The Complete 4th Season - No Jeff, but there's Oliver": I miss Jeff, I really do. Oliver was an interesting character, but too close to Jeff, and just not as funny. Many fans hated Richard Mylan, but it's not his fault. Coyle left the series on his own accord when he was offered the starring role in Strange.
If this is how the series ends then I must say I'm a bit bummed. Season 4 didn't feel as good as the previous one, maybe it's because of Jeff's departure, but I think Susan's pregnancy also contributed to it. It's a shame there weren't any commentary tracks on the set, but the "Script to Screen" documentary was excellent.
Summary of "The Complete 3rd Season - Bye Jeff!": This show just gets better and better, but not for long. Season 3 was that last to feature Richard Coyle as Jeff, and I can't imagine the show without him. Jeff gets most of the one-liners, and he's such a whacked character that you never know what to expect. Sure, the others are good, but this is Jeff we're talking about; Jeff! It'll be interesting to see how he's written out as well, because he's very much a part of the show at the end of season 3.
I thought it was a bit odd that 5 of the 7 episodes contained commentary; why not do them all? The rest of the material is pretty much standard fare; photos, bios, trailers and a gag reel that's disguised as deleted scenes. This is one funny, funny show, and well worth owning. (read entire review)
The Complete 2nd Season - Love the Brits! (11/22/2003)
Summary of "The Complete 2nd Season - Love the Brits!": I just love this show! I think the best part of season 2 was the length; 3 episodes longer than the first one. Jeff has to be one of the funniest characters on TV, and he was brilliant in "The Man With Two Legs." I loved listening to the commentary tracks, and I hope the BBC adds them to more of their releases (I wished The Office had some). A better release for a great show. (read entire review)
The Complete 1st Season - You're not ready for the giggle loop (1/12/2003)
Summary of "The Complete 1st Season - You're not ready for the giggle loop": Sometimes British TV shows drive me crazy, not because they're bad, but because they have such short seasons! I get completely hooked on a show, then BAM, it's over! Hopefully the BBC will roll the second season out ASAP (it's available overseas already) so I can continue to enjoy the exploits of Steve, Susan, Sally, Patrick, Jeff and Jane.
This show is being "Americanized" and should show up on one of the networks in the fall (assuming it's picked up). While I think it could mean a lot more people become familiar with the show, I think I'll stick to the original. This DVD set is cheap ($18.99 from Amazon.com) and provides a few hours of laughter. I strongly recommend it if you enjoy Friends or Sex and The City, or you just love a great British comedy.
