Summary of "Season 2 - Commish - A friendly Vic Mackey": I remember a number of episodes from season 2 from the initial run on TV, but not all of them. One of the most memorable was "The Blue Flu," and I'm not sure why that is. I guess it's a catchy phrase that stuck with me all these years. Cyd is cool, but I miss Pauli as well. Thankfully he returns in the later seasons.
I must say it was a bit odd to watch Chiklis in The Commish right after watching him on The Shield, and having both sets street on the same date. (read entire review)
Summary of "Season 1 - Vic, meet The Commish": I think we will have to get used to the quality of the Cannell sets. They all seem to be the same; slightly poor video, interviews as extras and no after-credits chapters. It could be worse, but it could also be a whole lot better. They kept talking about the "real" Commish in the interviews, and I would have loved to hear some commentary from him on at least one episode. It seems as though these are slapped together fairly quickly, with little thought about how they should be put together. It's Cannell's own company doing this; Anchor Bay is just the DVD distributor. I hope I don't sound ungreatful that this is on DVD, but I'm having a bad day, I'm a fan of the show, and I'm a bit ticked that the release isn't as good as I had hoped and I feel like complaining about something.
It was a lot of fun watching this show again, and it lives up to my memories. I love Chiklis as a good cop as much as I love him playing a bad-ass cop in The Shield. If you're looking for a quirky cop show to watch with the family then you should pick this up. (read entire review)
