Summary of "Pilot - Family Drama, keep that in mind": Oh boy, I'm really torn on this show. As Aubuchon mentioned in a featurette, this is a "family drama," that happens to be set on another planet. I fear die-hard sci-fi fans will watch the pilot and abandon it because there isn't enough science fiction, which people who would normally watch a family drama will be turned off by the sci-fi element. I really hope I'm wrong, because the show has a lot of potential, and the cast is amazing. I've been a fan of Esai Morales since he joined the cast of NYPD Blue, and Eric Stoltz is awesome.
This is a pretty good DVD as well. Not only does it give fans an early preview of the pilot (and I'm assuming this will be a longer cut - it features some nudity which I can't see them airing on TV), as well as some decent bonus material. I was surprised by the inclusion of an episode of Ghost Hunters, but I really enjoyed seeing the show. Not sure it really belongs on the set, but whatever, it made for a good bonus feature.
Even if you aren't sold on the concept, give the show a chance. I'm interested to see how it evolves over the first season. (read entire review)
