Summary of "Volume 3 - Roger Rocks": Well, this was another enjoyable sit-down with American Dad. There are some great episodes in this set, like "The Vacation Goo," "Four Little Words" and "Big Trouble in Little Langley." Fox has also done a good job with this set, providing commentaries on every episode, tons of deleted scenes, and the Comic-Con table read (I just wish the audio was better on this).
I can't wait until the next DVD set, whenever that will be. (read entire review)
Summary of "Volume 2 - Great set": I wasn't really a fan of American Dad when I watched the episodes on volume 1; I preferred Family Guy (and it's hard not to compare the two shows). My views on the show changed while watching these episodes, and I started drawing fewer comparisons to the Family Guy characters. Maybe it's because I haven't seen Family Guy in a long time, or maybe it's because I've spent more time watching America Dad, but I started to enjoy this show a lot more.
The commentaries on the episodes are good, and there are some decent featurettes on the set. Overall I'm impressed with the work Fox has done here, but I'd still like chapters placed after the opening of the episodes. (read entire review)
Summary of "Volume 1 - Great set!": American Dad is a decent show as long as you can get past this not being Family Guy. The poor show is always compared to Family Guy, but you can't really blame the fans. There's the same creator, some of the same voices and same character design, but these are different shows. It took me awhile to separate the two shows, but I enjoyed American Dad a lot more once I did.
I have no complaints with this box set at all. Fox has done a terrific job putting the set together. The audio and video quality is superb, and the extras are more than I was expecting. Initial sets also include a special Family Guy bonus disc, but I didn't receive that with my review copy. (read entire review)
