Summary of "Season 1 - Yes, this race was amazing!": I had a BLAST watching this all day yesterday (Saturday). I was so excited to see the very first race, and I loved being able to watch the entire season in an afternoon/evening. I'd love to comment on everything that happened, but I don't want to spoil the season for someone who hasn't seen it. The ending of the race is incredibly moving; it's the best ending to the show I've seen.
I feel the need to comment on the "Side Trips." I think it's a great idea to include the additional footage, but the way it was done could have been better. Footage has to be made available outside the episode. I found the experience of being sucked out of the episode to watching some extra footage very jarring, and I stopped pressing the button part way through the first episode. I began taking notes of the time, then returning to the episode and jumping to the specific location so I could watch the branching material. It's okay to have the material integrated into the episode, but please make it available elsewhere as well. There's some excellent material in there!
I've often wondered about the work that goes into this show, so I really enjoyed the two longer featurettes, and the commentary tracks were great! There's always one thing missing from these reality shows; interviews with the cameramen. I'd love to hear some of their stories, or thoughts on filming the shows.
I loved watching the first season of my favorite reality show. It's priced well, just $27.29 from Amazon, and is worth buying if you're a fan of the show.
