Summary of "The Complete 2nd Season - A fun show 'aight?": This show has either grown on me, or gotten better with season 2. There were times when I burst out laughing; Borat racing the wine taster ("I win!"), the wrestlers appearing on Gay TV, and so many others. I love it when Ali G twists words around and confuses the interviewee; the BLT discussion was hilarious.
I love the "unseen shit" on the set, but I really miss the commentary. Sure, it was just on a single episode for season 1, but there was some great stuff in there. This was the last season of the show, so we don't have anything more to look forward to... except the Borat movie! (read entire review)
Summary of "The Complete 1st Season - Da DVD": Like I said, I'm amazed by how quickly Cohen can think on his feet. He can take a simple statement, twist it around and use it to confuse his guest. Ali G can get a bit tiring and annoying, so it's great that he plays 2 other characters regularly. Cohen and Mazer discuss the production schedule in the commentary, and how they have to work the timing into the show to allow for the transformation into Borat or Bruno. It's more than a simple costume change; Cohen grows hair and a mustache for Borat, or cuts his hair for Bruno. There was quite a bit trimmed from the initial announcement of the set; commentary on episode 2, "play-by-character" feature, "Conversations with Ali G," and subtitles in English, French and Spanish. Strangely the HBO press site still lists these are features on the set.
Ali G may not be your thing, but it's worth taking a look at if you enjoy comedy. (read entire review)
