Now a master Waterbender, Aang leaves the Northern Water Tribe to continue his quest to master the next element, Earth. Along with Katara and Sokka, they visit new Earth Nation cities, encounter a slew of different Earth Kingdom citizens, and even reunite with a crazy old king!
Nickelodeon released season 1 in 5 volumes, followed by a season set. This time they're releasing the season in 4 volumes, with 5 episodes each.
Disc 1 (2:00:03)
The Avatar State (24:01)
The Cave of Two Lovers (24:01)
Return to Omashu (24:01)
The Swamp (24:01)
Avatar Day (23:59)
This series looks very, very good on DVD. I love the new cartoons that are colored on computers; the colors are bright, and the picture is nearly flawless. There are a number of jaggies that can be seen, usually on objects that run diagonally across the screen. There aren't any chapters in the episodes, but there's a "play all."
Viewers are given the option between three stereo audio tracks; English, French and Spanish. The audio is very nice, with lots of directional effects and nice musical cues. I didn't hear any flaws in the audio; sounds good. There aren't any subtitles, but the episodes are closed captioned.
Original Uncut Animatic - Episode 1 (24:38)
The original animatic along with the full episode in the lower-right corner. Sorry, I don't find animatics very interesting to watch.
Mini-Comic (part 1 of 4)
Each volume in season 2 will have an exclusive mini-comic inside. There's no mention of it on the packaging, but it's in there, and it's mini (4 pages of the comic, and 2 pages of sketches).
I've missed my little arrow-headed friend, so I was happy that they're giving us 5 episodes on these volumes instead of 4, and they haven't raised the price. I had hoped for more extras though; I find animatics completely useless, and would have preferred some commentary tracks like they had on the fifth volume from season 1.
