Neutron, Jimmy Neutron by Gord Lacey (All reviews)
2/13/2004
Jimmy Neutron made his debut on Nickelodeon in a series of 1 minute shorts prior to the 2001 theatrical film Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. Jimmy is just your typical 10 year old genius. He gets himself into trouble, but always finds his way back out. If he gets into too much trouble, his robo-dog Goddard is there to lend a helping hand, after all, Jimmy made Goddard to be more than just a pet. Also joining him, sometimes reluctantly, is his best friend/guinnea pig, Carl, and Sheen, the UltraLord obsessed little geek. Join Jimmy and his friends as they get themselves in and out of tight spots.
The two "Jet Fusion" episodes were great! Featuring the voices of Christian Slater (Jet Fusion), Wendie Malick (Beautiful Gorgeous), Michael Clarke Duncan (Commander Baker), Dan Castellaneta (Professor Crank) and Tim Curry (Professor Calamitous), these are episodes you can't miss!
Video
3D animated shows certainly have an advantage over other shows when it comes to video quality. There's no film, and no tape, so flaws can't be developed from the source. The lighting is also consistent since it's all rendered in a computer. The only flaws I found in the show were caused by the animation software used. Top marks!
Audio
I was less impressed with the audio than the video. It's adequate for a TV show, but isn't anything spectacular. There's little panning in the stereo track, which is disappointing since there are many opportunities to do so; the only stand-out scene that used panning was the fight in "Jet Fusion." No subtitles on the set, but it's closed captioned.

Summary
Keep these discs coming, although I'd prefer the show to be released in season sets (I can hope at least). Like I said before, the 2 "Jet Fusion" episodes were great, and the other 6 were pretty darn entertaining as well.
