Living in a beachfront apartment complex sounds like paradise, but when you're a working model at one of the top South Beach modeling agencies, living with the competition can get tense. Meet 10 drop-dread gorgeous models, all at a turning point in their lives and careers. Britt, Kelly, Sabrina, Tracie, Briana and Talesha all share one model apartment while down the hall Adrian, Sean, Vinci and Teddy share another. Beauty isn't only skin deep and they have to prove it every day... from instant recognition to crushing rejection. Balancing the sun-drenched seduction of South Beach with the pressure to perform, 8th & Ocean exposes the hard work and human drama behind the profession of modeling.
Heat, Glamour, Drama, Just another day at 8th & Ocean.
I had no clue what this show was about when it was announced; an address doesn't describe a show very well. After reading the description I was intrigued, and figured it would be the perfect show to watch with my girlfriend (she loves America's Next Top Model, and this is about models, so...).

If you've seen an MTV DVD title released in the last few years they you know what to expect from this set. It's 1.33:1, shot on video, and it looks pretty good. There aren't any major flaws, but there are some scenes with video noise. There's a "play all" option, but MTV hasn't placed a chapter after the opening of the episode, so you have to fast-forward to get past it.
8th & Ocean features a decent stereo soundtrack. MTV has often been criticized for music replacement, and while I can't say that every song is present in these episodes, I can tell you that they feature a number of well-known songs. The dialog is easy to understand, the music sounds good, and I can't say there are any major issues to be concerned with. There aren't any subtitles, but the episodes are captioned.
Talesha and Adrian's Miami Hot Spots (5:50)
Talesha and Adrian take us on a tour of a few Miami hot spots.
Advice from the Experts (21:56)
Mia, Suzy, Allee and Irene talk about modeling, requirements, and how to get started in the biz.
Casting Tapes (18:03)
Casting tapes for Adrian, Briana, Britt, Kelly & Sabrina, Sean, Talesha, Teddy, Tracie and Vinci.
Deleted Scenes (11:32)
A bunch of deleted scenes from the first season.
TRL segment featuring the Twins, Britt and Vinci (6:50)
It's pretty obvious what this is... some of the cast members appear on TRL.
MTV Overdrive Segments (1:35:35)
Wow...who knew this would be an hour and a half of material?! This is material that appeared on MTV Overdrive, and there's extra material for each episode. I found the audio for this feature to be quite poor.
Cast Bios (11 screens)
Bios for Adrian, Briana, Britt, Irene, Kelly, Sabrina, Sean, Talesha, Teddy, Tracie and Vinci.
Previews for other MTV titles; these are also at the start of disc 1.
I have mixed feelings about this show. I didn't mind watching it, but I didn't really connect with the people in the show. I think most of people are attractive, but I didn't like any of their personalities. Sabrina and Britt were probably the best of the bunch, but there were times I wanted them to quit whining and grow up. Vinci was the most annoying, and the guy needs someone to teach him the ways of the world, because good looks will only get you so far.
This was a good MTV release; normal audio and video, and a decent amount of extras. The MTV Overdrive feature caught me off guard with the amount of content, but that's one of the reasons I always include the length of the special features - you never know what you'll find on a set!
