Description:
The Bauer family first appeared on the 15-minute radio version of The Guiding Light in the late 1940s, and would remain central to the program until its final episode in September 2009.
In the early years, the story was driven by Papa Bauer, his two children Meta and Bill, and Bill's wife, Bert. Additional family members were added over time. By 2009, the show had spawned several generations of Bauers, including Papa's great, great grandchildren. The Bauer storyline was punctuated each year by an annual 4th of July Bauer barbecue, which became a much-loved hallmark of the series.
