We
passed along news back in May that the "New World" version of
Zorro, starring Duncan Regehr, which aired as part of the Family Channel lineup back in 1990, was coming to DVD. No specific timeframe was available then, but now one of our readers has pointed us toward an update! Our thanks to Darrell Ellis, who alerted us that
the "ZorroLegend" blog posted an entry late last week, with the following information:
New World Zorro DVD Release Update
A&E Video has a target of December 2010 for the release of the New World Zorro DVD set. Keep in mind that the specific release date has not been determined and that release dates are subject to change.
The original target was Fall 2010 but that was a little too quick, so the new target is December 2010. A lot goes into preparing a DVD release such as this one. We are going to get some great bonus features, including outtakes and the original never-before-seen pilot that did not star Duncan Regehr. It takes time to process these bonus features. In the meantime, we have much to anticipate!
There's a number of pieces of information in there, so let's recap them: according to the quote above, A&E Home Video will be distributing the title, and are hoping for release in
December 2010 (but it could still be subject to change). Extras will include the failed 1987 pilot treatment with Patrick James in the role of Zorro (more details on this in the blog at the above link, in a July 21st post), as well as outtakes from the regular series with Regehr. Of course, this information about the supplements isn't finalized, either, and could still be subject to change. Stay tuned for further updates!
