BKN International AG, a leader in global animation, has begun production on 26 episodes of Zorro animation to be ready for 2008. ZORRO: GENERATION Z will be set in the mythic Los Angeles-like city of Pueblo Grande about ten years into the future. Executive Producer Rick Ungar has fashioned a modern day Zorro character complete with his Tornado Z motorcycle and a flashy female lead.
This is Zorro for the new millennium! BKN’s high quality version sets Zorro in the present with modern-day themed adventures in a fast paced format. Diego de la Vega is a modern day, young man entering his first year at University. Diego is a descendant of Zorros of the past, who has reason to once again pick up the mantle when the city of his birth grows increasingly corrupt. Being a Zorro of today means no longer riding a horse. Instead Zorro fights crime on a very cool motorcycle called the Tornado-Z. His crime fighting tools include a Z-Pod, Z-Phone and other surprises befitting of a modern day hero. Expect new renditions of established Zorro characters along with some new additions, including a fellow female freshman, The Scarlet Whip.
Action… adventure… fast motorcycles… and one of the most enduring and legendary heroes of all time. The melding of an historic legend with powers, high tech gadgetry and vehicles of the modern-day super-hero as the all new El Zorro rides again!
Being prepped for over a year, the European-produced cartoon
Zorro: Generation Z (with an international audience as its target) will come to North American television in 2008, with big plans - as yet unrevealed - for American TV audiences. However, to kick things off, BKN and distributor Genius Products have scheduled a release on DVD of the introduction,
Zorro: Return to the Future, for release on
November 13th in the USA and Canada.
Look for the first 3 episodes combined with additional footage, that together form a 60-minute movie. The DVD will also include a special bonus code allowing consumers to download an exclusive Zorro episode, for a limited time only, from BKN's website.
We have a very early look at the possible cover art, but it is extremely subject to change.
Zorro: Return to the Future is available to pre-order at
Amazon.com for $13.49.
