Set just before the American Civil War, The Young Riders presented a highly fictionalized account of the heyday of the Pony Express. Its focus was a group of young Express riders based at the waystation in Sweetwater, Kansas. Running the station was ex-Texas Ranger and all-around eccentric Teaspoon Hunter. The role of cook, housekeeper and mother hen was filled first by Emma and later by Rachel. The riders included the future "Buffalo Bill" Cody and James Butler ("Wild Bill") Hickok, as well as Ike, a mute, Buck, a half-White/half-Kiowa scout and the Kid, a quiet Southerner. Their final member was Lou, a young woman who lived and worked with the riders disguised as a boy. In second season, their group was joined by Noah Dixon.
MGM, through Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, has announced plans to release the first season of
Young Riders on DVD. We know that'll excite many of you, since the show is one of the most-requested unreleased programs here at TVShowsOnDVD, a fact mentioned on Sony's mailing to video retailers to help convince them to stock this DVD set in their stores. That's just another example that the votes you cast on the site really are noticed by the studios!
Running 1056 minutes, all 24 episodes of the show will appear on this 5-DVD set, due to hit the trail on
March 21. The series, which ran on ABC, lasted for 3 seasons, and 68 episodes. This first set will feature a full frame (1.33:1) transfer, with English audio (format unknown).
