"Finally"? Yep...it's been two-and-a-half years since we
reported that our friends at The Digital Bits website had gotten an advanced copy of the then-new
Buck Rogers DVD, containing a sales booklet that mentioned several "upcoming" releases ("coming soon to a DVD near you") including
Woody Woodpecker. Since that Nov. 2004 insert, though, there hasn't been any official word from Universal. Until now.
Yesterday the studio announced the
July 24, 2007 release of
Woody Woodpecker & Friends - Classic Cartoon Collection, a 3-DVD set running around 8 hours. The "friends" depicted on the cover art (see below) are Andy Panda, Chilly Willy and Wally Walrus. The box will be a "premium" special die-cut packaging that lists for $39.98 SRP. Video is 1.33:1 full frame, with black-and-white cartoons included along with the color installments. Audio is in the original English mono, with subtitles in English, French and Spanish. No word yet on bonus material, but stay tuned and we'll let you know if we hear about any.
