Wolverine & the X-Men - Canadian 'Limited Edition' DVD Release Getting Extra Episode, Different Box Art and is Available Sooner

When an explosive event shatters the lives of the X-Men and takes away their mentor, the beaten heroes walk away from it all. Given a rare glimpse into the future, the X-Men see a world in utter ruin, ruled by giant destructive robots, a world that spiraled out of control because the X-Men had given up. So now the most legendary of all X-Men takes the lead - Wolverine! Reuniting these broken heroes, Wolverine embarks on the ultimate mission - to prevent the world's destruction. To rescue us from ourselves. To save the future.
Two weeks ago we had the scoop that Lionsgate was teaming up with Marvel Comics for a USA release of Wolverine & the X-Men - Volume 1: Heroes Return Trilogy. That April 21st DVD will contain the first three episodes of the new animated series which airs on the NickToons Network in the States. But up in Canada, X-fans north of the border will be getting a different release, featuring the first FOUR episodes of the show!

Liberation Entertainment holds the international DVD rights, including Canada, and is putting together Wolverine & the X-Men - Season 1, Chapter 1: Limited Edition. The series runs on Teletoon and YTV up north, and with the different distributors we're going to see a slightly different DVD. Liberation's version will have an extra episode compared to Lionsgate's USA release, with the announcement material stating "Season 1 - Chapter 1 contains the first 4 action-packed episodes." So it runs a bit longer (88 minutes) than the version in the lower forty-eight, but it actually will cost a drop less: the list price is CA$16.95, which comes to a bit under fourteen dollars U.S. when using today's exchange rates (which change daily). By comparison, the list price on the USA title is $14.98 SRP.

On the other hand, the USA release has a nice list of bonus material, including a Commentary Track with the Writers, a separate Commentary Track with the Directors, a Making-of Featurette, some EPK (Electronic Press Kit) material and Character Profiles. The info which came with the announcement for the Canadian release doesn't mention any extras at all. Nor do the audio/video specs get detailed, other than to mention that the language support is in English.

What, then, does the announcement say will make Canada's Season 1, Chapter 1 release a "Limited Edition"? The material says that this "Special limited edition die-cut O-card looks like Wolverine has torn right through it!!" We have a nice-sized picture of that for you below. This hits the streets in the nation of the maple leaf flag on April 14th, a week earlier than its red-white-and-blue counterpart.
