Ken Wahl, star of Wiseguy, has his very own website, which has a very patriotic theme and in which he connects with his fans via news, chats, and discussion forum. In this post at his discussion forum, Ken himself informs us of changes to the soundtracks of the episodes on the upcoming DVD release, and what he states as the reasons behind them: You can blame the "Napsters" of the world for causing the deletion of some of the original music from the Wiseguy DVD sets.No one was more disappointed than I,when I was informed that some of the original soundtrack music on Wiseguy was to be replaced.I was a Supervising Producer on Wiseguy,as well as the show's lead actor. In those capacities,I had much creative control, and I was in on choosing all the music for the show, including "Nights in White Satin,"which I insisted on,along with my colleagues, despite vehement objections from CBS,for the climactic scene between Vinnie and Sonny at the end of the Steelgrave story line....The music industry has lost so much revenue due to "Napster,"and the like, that they have decided to try to make up the difference,to some small degree,by charging outrageously exorbitant prices to renew the copyrights of originally placed music being implemented for the purposes of new DVD productions of previously released movies and television shows. To have paid these prohibitively excessive prices would have precluded making the DVD sets,as it would then have been economically unfeasible to produce the program for re-distribution via DVD at ALL....If you think you're disappointed, imagine how I feel.I liken it to being an artistic painter, and someone comes along and decides the original paint you used was too expensive to sell at a realistic price to the public,so they scrape off some of the original paint from the artwork, and then allow a kindergarten class to paint over a portion of your painting with watercolor....Hopefully,the extras that accompany the Wiseguy DVD sets, will be an acceptable compromise for this unfortunate occurence. If not,I humbly apologize;however, this matter is beyond my control. With Chagrin, KEN WAHL Our thanks to R. Kay for bringing this very important matter to our attention.
