When will
The Wire be out on DVD? It's a question we get asked a lot. We thought we had
the answer back in January when someone emailed us a response they received from HBO. The April 27th date has come and gone and still no DVD set. In the past few dates we've received a few emails from people telling us about information they've read or received from HBO.
The first date, July, can be found in an
interview with David Simon, creator of the show:
The DVD release is up to HBO. It is my understanding that the first season will be available next July. Second season probably thereafter. Too soon to be talking about projects other than The Wire right now.
The second date comes from an HBO customer service email:
THE WIRE: The Complete First Season DVD/VHS Region 1 will go on sale August 31, 2004.
While it's nice to see that there are some possible dates floating around, we all know that HBO's customer service can be wrong. All we can say for certain is the first season will be out on DVD, but we're going to have to wait for an official press release from HBO before we'll have a confirmed date.
