When we
posted the cover art for
The Winds of War - Special Collector's Edition DVD, we promised we would return with official studio information just as soon as it was available. Last night, Paramount sent us the complete specs for this classic 1983 mini-series.
As indicated all along, the release date for this 6-disc box set will be on May 25, 2004: the Tuesday prior to the Memorial Day weekend...AND in time to coincide with the 60th anniversary of D-Day (June 6th). There will be no S.R.P. on this compilation, per Paramount's now-becoming-normal TV-on-DVD policy, but it's expected to be priced around $60 in the U.S. and under C$75 in Canada.
The four-time Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award-nominated mini-series
The Winds of War stars Robert Mitchum as a family patriarch who must prepare his family for war. Also starring are Ali MacGraw, Jan-Michael Vincent, John Houseman, Polly Bergen, and Ralph Bellamy.
Set against the backdrop of world events that led to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941,
The Winds of War stars Robert Mitchum as Victor "Pug" Henry, a career naval officer who along with his family, learns to navigate the waters of his dangerous times in the late 1930s. While Germany expands and proceeds to seize several border countries, Italy attempts to establish a Fascist Colonial Empire under Mussolini and Japan prepares for a major battle with China. Meanwhile, the Henry clan finds itself drawn into the center of the conflict as they deal with the drama, romance, tragedy and heroism that lead to America's involvement in World War II.
