Last summer we
reported that Nickelodeon had teamed up with Amazon's CreateSpace team for a manufacture-on-demand release of
The Wild Thornberrys - Season 1 on DVD. The 4-disc set was released via that MOD program, but interest in the show on home video has proven to be sufficiently high enough that Nickelodeon has teamed up with Shout! Factory to now sell this series through general retail, using traditional disc-publishing methods instead of MOD. It is the first of several Nickelodeon titles that were previously put out through CreateSpace, and will now come to general retail via Shout!; more on those when the time comes.
For now, Shout! Factory and Nickelodeon are starting with
The Wild Thornberrys - Season 1. The 4-DVD package running 440 minutes will be available on
May 17th. Pricing hasn't been revealed, but here at TVShowsonDVD we do expect it to be the same list price as the MOD version: $39.98 SRP (we'll update you if that changes). Here's a high-resolution 3D look at Shout!'s version of the packaging:
UPDATE (2/17): Amazon.com has just added a pre-order listing for Shout! Factory's retail release of
The Wild Thornberrys - Season 1. The list price turns out to be ten dollars lower than that of the previous MOD release, at a mere $29.93 SRP! And Amazon is discounting it down from there, of course. Fans have also asked about whether new extras would be on Shout!'s general release, and the answer is that the studio is looking into this, but so far they haven't made a final determination yet. We'll report on it if any bonus material does get added to the set, of course!
