Sony-MGM has made the long-awaited announcement this morning that Wild Palms is coming to DVD this Fall. The 1993 mini-series aired over the course of 6 hours and was the brainchild of Bruce Wagner, who wrote the story and co-Executive Produced it along with Oliver Stone. James Belushi, Dana Delany, Robert Loggia, Kim Cattrall, Angie Dickinson, and Ben Savage led the cast, with Ernie Hudson, Bebe Neuwirth, Robert Morse, David Warner, and Brad Dourif making appearances as well.
"They Control Your Dreams" was the tagline for this thriller which takes place in the not-too-distant future (about 60 years from now), at a global conglomerate which is promoting a revolutionary form of 3-D TV they call "The New Reality." Harry Wyckoff (Belushi), freshly made president of the company, heads up the launch of this technology, which is projected into homes worldwide. But there's more to this technology than meets the eye, because in order for the viewers to interact with it they have to take a drug...one with nasty side effects involving hallucinations! Senator Tony Kreutzer (Loggia), the uncle of Wyckoff's wife Grace (Delany), is all set to take advantage of this. Soon a handful of people realize that this new form of entertainment is really a bid for domination of their dreams, their minds...and of the entire world!
October 4th is the release date for a 2-DVD set running 285 minutes. $19.94 is the suggested list price for this item. No other details are available just yet, nor has cover art been provided so far. Stay tuned, though, and we'll bring you more just as soon as the studio makes it available.
