China is one of the oldest civilizations on Earth, and for the first time in almost a century, it is opening up to the world. This landmark series gains unprecedented access to the most enigmatic of countries and reveals a land of astonishing natural complexity, breathtaking landscapes, rare and surprising wildlife, and colorful people.

The glittering peaks of the Himalayas, the world's highest mountain range, loom over the desolate Tibetan plateau. Rivers snake through plains, roar through echoing limestone gorges, and cascade down forest waterfalls. Deserts range from searing hot to mind-numbingly cold. Steaming jungles teem with tropical creatures some of which are just now being discovered.

The latest aerial filming technologies and high definition cameras capture the dazzling array of mysterious and wonderful creatures that live in China's most beautiful landscapes. Over six episodes, we travel the length and breadth of China to reveal the full extent and fabulous diversity of its natural wonders.
The BBC America Shop online has listed a July 1st release of the 2008 documentary Wild China, a 6-part joint production of the BBC Natural History Unit and China Central Television (CCTV) that was first announced back in 2006. The episodes are "The Great Rice Bowl," "The Forests of Shangri La," "Tibet," "Beyond the Great Wall," "Land of the Dragon" and "Crowded Coasts."

Each 50-minute installment was shot entirely in high definition, so the 2-disc release will be available in Blu-ray Disc ($39.98 SRP) as well as standard DVD ($29.98 SRP). Both will include a bonus Making-Of Featurette called "Hunting Dragon." Subtitles will be in English for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired, and in Traditional Mandarin Chinese as well.
