Following the
1985 John Hughes movie starring Kelly LeBrock and Anthony Michael Hall, the USA Network in 1994 launched a 5-season television series of
Weird Science, starring supermodel Vanessa Angel in the role of "Lisa". Just like in the film, Lisa was a gorgeous, smart, wish-fulfilling woman created whole out of a twist of magic and (computer) science by a pair of nerds named Gary and Wyatt, who sought to create their dream girl. In a tongue-in-cheek reference to the movie it was spun off from, Wyatt reassures Gary in the first episode that he knows this can be done, because he saw it in a John Hughes film once!
This weekend we stumbled across a brand-new listing at Amazon.com for an upcoming release of
Weird Science - The Complete Seasons 1 & 2, coming to DVD on New Year's Day,
January 1st. The distributor is shown to be A&E Home Video, and we've confirmed with the studio's PR team that this is indeed on their schedule, but they have no details yet other than what is listed at Amazon. Cost is $44.95 SRP, for 598 minutes' running time. The disc count of "1" at Amazon is incorrect; this will probably be a 3- or 4-disc collection to contain all 26 episodes from the first two seasons. No word yet on extras or cover art, but stay tuned and we'll keep you updated!
