Fans of Weeds
were upset when they heard the first season was Full Frame (1.33:1) on DVD, instead of a widescreen transfer; the show aired in widescreen. Now Lionsgate has announced the Blu-ray release of the show, and it'll sport a widescreen HD transfer. It doesn't help the people with the DVD sets (and no, there aren't any plans to rerelease the DVD set with widescreen episodes), but it's nice for the fans that didn't buy the previous set and own a Blu-ray player. Here's the info sheet the studio sent out, followed by the artwork:

Showtime's award-winning TV series, "Weeds," is now available for the first time on Blu-ray disc from Lionsgate. The Blu-ray disc includes all ten episodes from Weeds: Season One, presented for the first time in high-definition and widescreen format. The disc is loaded with special features including "Smoke & Mirrors," an original marijuana mockumentary, Agrestic "herbal" recipes, and audio commentaries from cast and crew. Featuring an all-star cast including Golden Globe®-winner Mary-Louise Parker, Elizabeth Perkins and Kevin Nealon, "Weeds" examines family life in the suburban neighborhood of Agrestic, California, where recently widowed Nancy Botwin (Parker) is finding it hard to make ends meet while raising her two sons. Left with more family debt than expected, Nancy embarks on a new career as a pot dealer to pay the bills. As her business grows, she has to hide her new career from her family and her best friend, PTA president Celia Hodes (Perkins). In the neighborhood of Agrestic, nothing is what it seems.
Since its critically-acclaimed debut, "Weeds" has been nominated for five Emmy® Awards and seven Golden Globes® and won the Globe for Best Performance by An Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy - for Parker's brilliant performance. Weeds: Season One is subversive, satirical, hilarious and guaranteed to spark laughter!
