We
brought you details this past Friday about the high-definition Blu-ray Disc version of
Weeds - Season 4, coming out from Lionsgate on
June 2nd. It's hitting day-and-date with the standard DVD version, and now the studio has filled in retailers with the details and package art for the more widely-used format. We've confirmed that the DVD will be a 3-disc set with 13 episodes running 286 minutes, and with extras "including cast commentaries, a gag reel, newly produced featurettes and more!"
Video is anamorphic widescreen, with audio options in English 5.1 and English 2.0, and subtitles in English and Spanish plus closed captioning for the hearing impaired. It will NOT have the "bonus view" video commentary tracks that
the Blu-ray version does, as that's exclusive to the high-def format. As we mentioned last time, the DVD packaging is going to be made from recycled paper and plastic waterbottle (note the "Growing Green" logo on the DVD package art below, just underneath Mary-Louise Parker's tankini bottoms).
The cost Lionsgate provides is $39.98 SRP, which is actually ten dollars more than the list price shown
at Amazon's pre-order listing. Frankly, the Amazon numbers are probably a typo, and are likely to be corrected soon, so lock in your copy of the DVD version at that price while you can! Why do we think the Amazon numbers are wrong? Well, there's usually only a 1-cent price different on Liongate TV-on-BD (Blu-ray Disc) releases compared to the same title as a TV-on-DVD; we found it strange that they suddenly changed that with
Weeds - Season 4. It makes more sense that Amazon simply got it wrong or "fat-fingered" it (hit the wrong key on the keyboard, as these things certainly do happen from time to time). If we find out differently, we'll of course let you know. Here's the DVD version of the package art:
