At the top of this week you saw
our story about Lionsgate's plans for a
June 3rd release of
Weeds - Season 3. The 15-episode set comes on 3 discs in both DVD and Blu-ray Disc flavors, costing $39.99 SRP either way (well, technically the list price for the standard DVD version is a penny less).
A day later we gave you
a look at the DVD cover art, as provided by our friends at DVDActive.com, but actually we overlooked the obvious! As reader Rodney Powell pointed out to us, that version is technically the U.K. cover art as demonstrated by the spelling of "neighbourhood" (with the telltale "u" included in the word's British variation).
Yesterday the studio made the final North American artwork, specs (replacing any previous info) and list of bonus material available for both the DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases. Here is what you'll get:
- DVD:
- 388 Minute running time
- Widescreen
- English - 5.1
- English Subtitles, Spanish Subtitles, Closed Captioning
- Extras:
- 8 Commentaries with Cast and Crew
- 7 Trivia Tracks
- "Uncle AWOL" Featurette with Justin Kirk
- Mary-Kate Olsen Bio
- "G.M.A - Good Morning Agrestic!" Featurette
- Gag Reel
- Weeds Soundtrack Sampler
- "Little Boxes" Musical Montage
- "Little Boxes" Randy Newman Featurette
- Blu-ray Disc:
- 388 Minute running time
- High Definition 1080p Widescreen
- English - 7.1 PCM
- English Subtitles, Spanish Subtitles
- Extras:
- 8 Commentaries with Cast and Crew
- 7 Pop Trivia Tracks
- "Uncle AWOL" Featurette with Justin Kirk
- Mary-Kate Olsen Bio
- "G.M.A - Good Morning Agrestic!" Featurette
- Gag Reel
- Weeds Soundtrack Sampler
- "Little Boxes" Musical Montage
- "Little Boxes" Randy Newman Featurette
- "Kush Kush and Away" Interactive Blu-ray Game
To sum up the list of differences between the DVD and the Blu-ray Disc version, you will get enhanced video capabilities (1080p high definition instead of 480p standard definintion), enhanced audio capabilities (7.1 PCM instead of 5.1), and an additional extra in the form of the "Kush Kush and Away" Interactive Blu-ray Game, but the Blu-ray Disc will NOT have closed captioning (however, English subtitles continue to be present, although we understand that some prefer closed captioning). Both are going to be available the same day, at basically the same cost (depending on how retailers discount these).
Here is a look at the final box art for the DVD and Blu-ray Disc packages:
