At the beginning of this year we
told you about rumors that
Walker, Texas Ranger was being looked at for DVD release this year. Now we have new rumors from industry sources that have proven reliable in the past that this is targeted for
Mid-2005 release, possibly on June 14th (still very subject to change).
You may recall that in the last news story we mentioned that we had contacted the studio for comment about this. Paramount Home Entertainment didn't want to talk about it just yet, though. Especially when I brought it to their attention that the information I had gotten was that the releases would start with the final season, Season 9, instead of with the first season as is customary. In the conversation I had with the studio, it was suggested to me - IF DVDs were really coming - that the "S9" info was probably a mistake, and any rumors I posted should not mention it. I followed Paramount's advice at the time, and left off that piece of info.
However, 100% of all the whispers I've heard since then have continued to show "Season 9", again and again, including this latest info that finally named a timeframe. If true, then the move will probably leave fans scratching their heads as to why that decision was made. Since that season ended 4 years ago, it's certainly not to capitalize on recent memories of the airing, as was the case with Universal's similar move with the
Law & Order shows.
I hope this "Season 9" info I've been given is mistaken, as the studio suggested. Right now, though, we can only pass on what we keep getting told. Stay tuned, and we'll keep you updated with developments in this fascinating story!
