The other day saw Universal's announcement
for Voyagers! - The Complete Series
DVD, and fans of the show couldn't be more excited about the July 17th
release, myself included! However, curbing my excitement this morning is the cover art that the studio has first provided via an ad designed for trade magazines, meant to convince retail chain buyers to stock this title on their shelves. Below is the close-up of the box art, followed by the trade ad we took it from.
As you can see, the main feature on the box is the Omni device, which our heroes used to identify problems in historical events and time-travel to them so they could do their thing. (WARNING: Editorial Comments Ahead.) However, the Omni's most memorable feature, the globe at its center (which can plainly be seen in any pic of it found at a Google image search
) is removed from the image shown on this box! Instead we get a pic of stars Jon-Erik Hexum and Meeno Peluce popping out of the center of the Omni. And, about that picture...well, my wife has never seen the show, and isn't familiar with it, and when she saw that picture this morning she commented that it looks like the sort of thing that might appeal to former U.S. Congressman Mark Foley. Ahem.
In the end, it doesn't really matter. It's just a box, and what's important to me is what's on the inside: the DVDs. But I do wonder whether this is going to be the box art which helps the package sell. Here it is, decide for yourself:
