This past Tuesday
Voltron fans were happy to begin getting their
Vol. 3: Green Lion tin, continuing the classic animated series on DVD. They were even happier to check out the enclosed catalog from Media Blasters, which had a sneak preview of the tin for
Voltron: Defender of the Universe - Vol. 4: Red Lion. You can see a scan of that below (sorry it's not great quality). They didn't have any release info to go along with that, but we found that our friends at anime e-tailer RightStuf.com has a listing up for it. That shows that this set will come out on
September 25th. The cost they show is $39.95 SRP, for a runtime of 375 minutes.
Thanks to all of our readers who wrote in with information about this. Media Blasters did not immediately respond to our requests for confirmation of that information, but please stand by and we'll update you with more info, and better artwork, just as soon as we can. We're expecting another great set for
Red Lion, and if the release timeframe for that one is accurate, then it's possible we'll wrap it up with
Black Lion in time for Christmas. Stay tuned!
P.S. - For
Voltron fans who like DVDs, this is a bit outside of our regular area, since it's not a TV-DVD. But on August 7th the folks at Eagle One Media are releasing
Voltron: Defender of the Universe - Revelations, an "animated digital comic production" (basically, a comic book on DVD). The production utilizes the actual artwork and story content from the Devil's Due series of comic books, about 5-7 of them per release (roughly 75 to 100 minutes long), with
Revelations being the first. Look for the comic book storyline to be augmented with the addition of animation, motion-style techniques, character voice-over, music, and special effects, creating a fact-paced, entertaining “feature film” on DVD.
“Voltron fans worldwide are sure to enjoy these unique adventures,” commented Eric Reichert, President of Eagle One Media, Inc. “These DVDs will have more animation and action then our previous releases and each DVD will contain two versions of the adapted comic book story for fans to enjoy. One version will show the traditional word balloons on screen as the dialog is spoken during the video play much like a comic, while the other version will have the word balloons removed so fans can see more of the action and more of the wonderfully drawn and animated scenes on the screen.”
List price is $19.99, and you can pre-order it now at the Amazon.com link above. Here's the cover art:
