This past week, we've had a number of e-mails on the two subjects up there in our headline, and we've been holding off on reporting on these because we wanted to get comments about them from Media Blasters. However, we had not received a reply to our messages by the end of business on Friday.
First up, we received a number of e-mails from readers, beginning with Cory LaFerriere (thanks!), telling us that
the September issue of Newtype magazine contains a free DVD that comes with the mag. On that disc is a number of things, including the first episode of
Voltron. Yes, the same one that was
on the demo DVD we were sent to review. Cory tells us that "
It even has the 'Galaxy Garrision' typo that was previously reported." Well, of course it would. And so will the same episode as seen on the main release of
Voltron: Defender of the Universe - Collection 1: Blue Lion.

On the subject of the main set for
Blue Lion, if you just can't wait until the general release date of
September 26th to pick it up, you may want to check out your local Best Buy store this Tuesday. Quite a large number of employees of the chain (we'd thank you by name, but we don't want to get you in trouble for "talking to the media"), who have seen in advance the weekly ad circular for next week (9/10-9/16), have written in to tell us that the circular in question shows
Voltron - Blue Lion being released there
at Best Buy on Tuesday, Sept. 12th. For $22.99. Sound too good to be true? Well, you can see a bit of the ad to the left, of course, plus
BestBuy.com's release listing does indeed show that date and that price. Go figure!
Speaking of figures, how would you like to take a look at a REALLY big
Voltron action figure? A couple of weeks ago we got an e-mail from reader Michael Grant, who sent us the following note and the picture below to go with it. It's not really "DVD" news (except that it was used to promote the fact that the DVDs are on the way), but it IS really neat, so we thought we'd share it with you:
At the Otakon Anime Convention August 3-6, Media Blasters had a 9-10 foot tall Voltron on display as part of their promotion for the DVD releases in the Dealer's Room. They were selling it for $10,000. I was told it was a one-of-kind. I took a picture...
