This past weekend we
reported that
Voltron: Defender of the Universe - Collection 2 is coming to DVD on
November 21st, and we've confirmed with Media Blasters that the subtitle will indeed be "Yellow Lion". In fact, they were kind enough to send us the disc case's insert cover art seen below, which will become converted to also be seen as the embossed front cover of the tin that will be produced.
Media Blasters has also confirmed to us that the future releases will be in order of how each lion attaches in the actual formation in the cartoons. In every sequence shown, Voltron forms feet and legs to begin, with Blue Lion attaching first, then Yellow Lion. Then they form arms and body, with Green Lion attaching and then Red Lion. "...And I'll form the head!" shouts Keith in Black Lion, who's always last. So expect this DVD order:
- Voltron: Defender of the Universe - Collection 1: Blue Lion (Lion Force eps 1-15)
- Voltron: Defender of the Universe - Collection 2: Yellow Lion (Lion Force eps 16-30)
- Voltron: Defender of the Universe - Collection 3: Green Lion (Lion Force eps 31-?)
- Voltron: Defender of the Universe - Collection 4: Red Lion
- Voltron: Defender of the Universe - Collection 5: Black Lion
They're still finalizing how many episodes will be on each of the releases from volumes three through five, but with 15 episodes each on the first two releases, an even split on the remaining three sets would be 14 episodes each, to arrive at a total of all 72 Lion Force episodes (not counting
Fleet of Doom). After that there will be 3 collections representing the 52 episodes of Vehicle Force
Voltron, and while Media Blasters wasn't able to provide me with the titles of those packages right away, I'm going to go out on a limb and theorize that it will end up being box names along the lines of Land Team (or perhaps the more official group name of "Turbo Terrain Fighter"), Sea Team ("Aqua Fighter" group), and Air Team ("Strato Fighter" group), with each set containing either 17 or 18 episodes. The Vehicle Force info you just read is NOT official, though...it's only me, guessing! Stay tuned for official info about that.
For now, here's the cover art for
Collection 2: Yellow Lion, and then below that we have a special treat! Media Blasters has very kindly sent us the mock-ups for the front and rear tins pieces for the Blue Lion set, and while the front is what we've seen before (just with rounded edges), the rear art shows a lovely shot of Princess Allura, who operates the Blue Lion! Given that, we can figure on seeing Hunk on Collection 2's rear cover art, with Pidge, Lance and Keith to follow in order. VERY nice! Remember, though, that these are not actual photos of actual tins yet...those are still being manufactured!
