World Events Productions ("WEP") has taken an attitude lately, per a company spokesman, that "the lunatics are running the asylum". In other words, the employees there at the studio who are also actual die-hard fans of WEP's animated properties have now been put in charge of getting some DVDs made. How does that affect WEP's other properties, and what does this mean for
Voltron?
In
our February Voltron update, we mentioned that WEP was direct-selling a DVD of
Vytor: The Starfire Champion, a 70-minute animated feature from 1989. Within the past week, WEP also
announced that they are now direct-selling
The Best of Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs - Volume 1. WEP unfortunately has no plans to make season sets of
Saber Rider, but if the first volume sells well, then they will do a second volume before they potentially lose their license to that material. In the meantime, as we
reported earlier today, WEP is taking fan feedback about which episodes of
Denver, the Last Dinosaur should be included on a possible best-of DVD...also to be direct-sold, if it gets made.
Would
Voltron also be a direct sale, IF obstacles could be overcome and DVDs could be released? Certainly not, we're told...it would OF COURSE be made available in stores. That's the word direct from Galaxy Garrison, straight to our ears.
So the next question, of course, is the big one: IS
VOLTRON COMING TO DVD? While WEP won't answer that question directly, at least not yet, the
Voltron.com website has a countdown on it, a countdown which looks like this (as of this writing):
WEP in in St. Louis, which puts them in Central Time Zone. By my calculation, the countdown terminates on March 30th, at 12 Noon Central Time. That's good...that means it won't be an April Fool's Joke! Here's what WEP has to say about this whole thing at their message boards:
A mysterious countdown has taken over Voltron.com!
What could this mean? A new site is on the way? Some news about DVD? A new series? Live action movie? Or is this just one of Haggar's tricks?..
Either way don't miss the action when the countdown hits zero!
Be there for V-DAY!
Could it be a DVD? Well, there are clues elsewhere, as well. Thanks to our friends at WEP, we've gotten in a copy of
Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs (and we hope to settle down tomorrow and start taking them in). One of the extras -
as reported - is "trailers". They really aren't so much trailers, as they are the opening main title credits for
Vytor, Denver...and
Voltron! Yes, even
Voltron: The Third Dimension is represented there as well. But it did my heart good to see the opening credits of the original
Voltron committed to DVD:

So things are looking up! Stay tuned, because if they ARE talking DVDs for this V-Day Countdown, then we'll be back on Thursday morning with a follow-up about what they're saying. Stand by...
