This past Tuesday saw the release of the fourth volume DVDs for
Voltron, and while fans are busy enjoying that "Red Lion" set, they are also wondering when WEP and Media Blasters will release
Voltron: Defender of the Universe - Collection 5: Black Lion, the final set featuring the "Lion Force" version of
Voltron. And, of course, what will be on it! We've dug into those questions, and come up with a few answers that should put a smile on your faces.
The release date is confirmed to be
December 11th, and you can
find a listing for it at Amazon.com. The big e-tailer is not taking pre-orders just yet, though...but keep checking that link as they ought to be taking them soon. Running time is 325 minutes, to cover episodes 60-72 of the legendary cartoon program.
What extras will accompany the cartoons on this release? We've got some gossip for you on that, but bear in mind that none of the below is confirmed with Media Blasters or WEP as finalized content on the set. So take all this with a grain of salt, but here are the rumored special features:
- A "lost episode" of Lion Force Voltron, that was recorded but ultimately scrapped
- Featurette on the history of World Events Productions (WEP)
- A preview of Vehicle Force Voltron on DVD
- Possibly a preview of GoLion on DVD, the Japanese show that Lion Force was based on
Again, none of that is confirmed with either studio involved, but we have enough confidence in it to pass it along as possibilities. Stay tuned and we'll bring you the final list of extras on this set just as soon as it's available. Here's the cover art of the disc case:
