We've reported (again and again!) about how Media Blasters was preparing a high-def Blu-ray Disc release of
Voltron: Defender of the Universe - Fleet of Doom, the team-up production featuring both the Lion Force and Vehicle Force groups. The title kept getting delayed, and in
our most recent report in mid-January we passed along word that it looked to finally be coming out last week. Sadly, that didn't happen. Some online retailers' listings are acting like the title shipped at some point, but that it is simply out of stock. Uh-uh; never happened. At least one or two others show a new date for the item. Uh-uh, sorry; not going to happen, we're afraid. Earlier today the Twitter feed @VoltronOfficial, run by the folks at World Events Productions,
tweeted this sad news:
Yes the Blu-Ray retail release of #Voltron: Fleet of Doom from @mediablasters has been canceled. Hoping to get more info soon... standby
We've confirmed the above information directly. As you can see, no reason was provided for the change. As far as we know, this cancellation will also apply to the title as sold through the official online
Voltron store (although the listing is still up over there at the time of this writing). Perhaps this title will be solicited again for Blu-ray in the future, but we have no knowledge of that one way or the other at this time. We're also keeping an eye out for other
Voltron DVD (and/or Blu-ray) developments, of course, including the '98 program and the new
Voltron Force series WEP is producing, to air on Nickelodeon starting in a few months. Stay tuned!
