It seems like there's a street date curse for DVD releases of
Voltron: Defender of the Universe. Certainly that's been the case for the "Vehicle Force" sets: the first one, titled
Collection 6 (the "air team" cover art) was delayed once, and the
Collection 7 (the "land team" box design) was rescheduled two or three times. Now the same situation has occurred for both
Collection 8 ("sea team" packaging) and the general retail release of the
Fleet of Doom team-up special.
Voltron: Defender of the Universe - Collection 8 was previously announced for shipment in just three weeks, on April 28th. Now Media Blasters has pushed the release date back to
July 21st. Similarly, the retail release of
Voltron: Defender of the Universe - Fleet of Doom won't be in stores on the previously-given date of May 26th; MB has pushed that back as well. Expect it a week after
Collection 8 hits; that will arrive on
July 28th. No reason was given for the change in the release dates. These new dates, which coincide with the annual San Diego Comic Con event, were provided by anime specialty site
RightStuf.com, after we got the heads-up about this from a post yesterday evening by our friends at
ToonZone.net; our thanks to both sites for the information. Online retailers such as Amazon.com and DVDEmpire.com are still showing the previously given dates on their listings, but are expected to update their information shortly.
