Yesterday we posted news about Voltron - Fleet of Doom being available through Amazon.com, to make it easier for fans to find and obtain. Since then we've gotten a number of e-mails asking us about the status of the new releases, for "Vehicle Force" Voltron especially. I forwarded those questions to WEP, and I've just gotten an update from them on the plans that Media Blasters (Voltron's DVD distributor) have filled them in on.
Apparently Media Blasters wants to start with a DVD release of GoLion, the Japanese series which WEP took footage from to re-edit into what became "Lion Force" Voltron. Here at TVShowsOnDVD, we don't normally report on "anime/manga/Japanimation" releases other than shows which went EXTREMELY mainstream on U.S. television (Speed Racer and Transformers would be other good examples of such). But, since GoLion (and Dairugger, the source of "Vehicle Force" Voltron footage) are pretty tied up in the plans for scheduling releases of Voltron DVDs, don't be surprised that we bend the rules for this post!
WEP was just informed that Media Blasters intends to release GoLion starting on May 27th. No specific release date has been set for Vehicle Force Voltron, which will consist of 3 releases each containing 17-18 episodes. There are a total of 52 episodes the Vehicle Force version of Voltron, and WEP thinks we'll see the first of the three sets before the end of 2008. It's still not set in stone, though, so stay tuned and we'll keep you updated!
